Every year, I make at least one “Grinch-themed” treat, and these cookies are always a hit. They’re fun and easy, and the kids love helping with the green food coloring and sticking on the little red heart at the end.

How to Make Grinch Cookies

Here are the ingredients you need to make these Grinch Christmas cookies, plus step by step instructions for how to make them.

Ingredients

  • 15.25 oz white cake mix
  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp peppermint extract
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Green gel food coloring
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • Red heart-shaped sprinkle

Step by Step Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper so the cookies don’t stick.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, softened butter, and eggs. Stir until a thick dough forms and everything is evenly blended.

3. Add the peppermint extract, vanilla extract, and a few drops of green gel food coloring. Mix well until the color is evenly distributed. Add more coloring if you want a brighter green.

4. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and cornstarch. This will give the cookies their signature crinkle look.

5. Use a cookie scoop (about 1½ tablespoons) to portion the dough. Roll each dough ball in the powdered sugar mixture until fully coated.

6. Place the coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops have that crinkled look.

7. While the cookies are still warm, press a red heart sprinkle on top of each one.

8. Let them cool on the pan for about 5 minutes before moving them to a rack. Serve once cooled or store in an airtight container.
